Jaggery is a particular type of sugar popular in India derived from sugarcane juice. A practice was executed to estimate jaggery quality by packaging jaggery in different material and packaging conditions. The results exhibited that the most suitable packaging material for storing jaggery lessening sugar content, moisture content, porosity, and microbial load in jaggery was observed to be very minimum in jaggery packaged under vacuum in three-layer material

There is not much variation in the packaging material of jaggery. Glass jars, LDPE (Low-Density Polythene) packets, and PET (Poly-Ethylene Terephthalate) jars are majorly used for the packaging of the jaggery. But using these types of material is not enough to prevent jaggery from mold growth. We need to take precautions to give it an anaerobic environment. Oxygen absorbers can vanish all our worries.

  • Oxygen absorber or eliminates the oxygen content and other unnecessary gases and moisture present in the container or the product.
  • It gives a boost to the shelf-life of the product up to three times as it maintains the anaerobic environment in the container
  • Oxygen absorbers are packed in sachets or packets which we place in containers to absorb all the oxygen or water content present inside them.
  • It does not harm the quality of the food or make it toxic that is why it is food safe and easy to use.
  • In jaggery packaging, it is essential to make sure that the container is dry and air-tight, so to make supremely perfect packaging one should put a sachet of oxygen absorber in the container.
  • Oxygen absorbers are not reusable however they can be used partially.
